Green hydrogen for zero-emission transport
Paving the way to emission free mobility and use of renewable energy, starting in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands.
The challenge
The transport sector is responsible for a substantial energy consumption and is a major contributor to emissions (CO₂, nitrogen oxides, particulates). Green hydrogen will play a key role in the transition to a sustainable transport sector, particularly for heavy transport. How to start moving?
Solution and impact
First step was to aggregate sufficient demand for green hydrogen in the region. The focus was and remains on heavy duty equipment, lorries and buses, next on cars in order to enhance visibility. During 2021 the Hysolar/Greenpoint hydrogen filling station has been taken in operation, production of green hydrogen based on electricity a.o. from a local solar panel field starts in 2024.
Status
Full scale operation as of 2021. Hysolar in close cooperation with the shareholders: Allied Waters, Jos Scholman Aannemersbedrijf and Van Kessel/Greenpoint.
