Allied Waters during 2025: moving moonshots to gold stars
Gold stars represent activities which have a high circularity level ánd are economically viable. If an activity is highly circular, yet not economically viable we call it a ‘moonshot’. During 2025 we will focus on enabling moonshots to become gold stars.
Reflections about the year 2024
During 2024 Allied Waters worked on a number of inspiring projects, based on our motto ‘driving the circular economy’. Just a grab from our portfolio:
- Upcycling sludges from drinking water treatment in France, in cooperation with Seitiss (FR) and AquaMinerals (NL)
- Production of activated carbon with an almost zero CO2 footprint, to be used for polishing wastewater effluent quality (removal of pharmaceuticals)
- Preparing for capacity building in order to enable local upcycling of residuals in the UK (jointly with Isle Utilities, Thames Water and UKWIR) and Sweden (jointly with Sydvatten, Norrvatten and SVOA)
- Official opening of the Hysolar facilities by the Dutch King Willem-Alexander, producer of green hydrogen and co-founded by Allied Waters
- Upscaling hydrogen production while abating network congestion in the Flevoland region, part of the HyDeer® project
- Zero-emission solids handling using a hydrogen powered genset, part of the Dutch dike reinforcement program
- Upcycling sludges
- Zero-emission dike reinforcement
Allied Waters Circularity matrix
And likewise we are looking forward to challenging projects during 2025. Following the overarching philosophy ‘sustainability and economics going hand in hand’ we phrase our activities according to the Allied Waters Circularity matrix below. Obviously, the goal is to avoid any business lacking a sustainability/circularity perspective (the ‘dead end streets’), but rather move towards ‘gold star’ level.
